Black Veil Part 1 "Loose stitches"

The gate to the throne room felt cold against Illithir's palm. He pushed inwards and was greeted by the smooth scent of vanilla. The throne room itself was dark and tall. Illithir closed the gate behind him quietly. Waving his hand he lit the torches on the wall beside him. As the room illuminated he could make out the objects around him more clearly. The throne of Lord Malkoven Volkov Sat at the end of the roo, behind that was a dark curtain. Illithis stepped into the center of the room and took it all in. A slight wind blew down from above, slipping through his silver hair. He stoofd about five feet and six inches from the ground. His dark skin glistened in the firelight. He stood silently, listening with his keen elf ears to make sure his presence was yet unnoticed. He heard nothing and his lips parted with a smile. This was it, his triumph! For months Illithir had waited to be accepted into the emperor's court and get close enough to Volkov to end that monster's reign of terror over the drow. Now was his time. Illithir slipped behind the curtain and extinguished the lights. It was time to wait, wait for the one who had made Illithir's life a living hell.

Hours passed and Illithir began to wonder if he had gotten the timing wrong.

"Has Volkov left early on his journey to the south? Have I missed my opportunity to free my people?"

Illithir listened intently.

Still nothing.

Then in the silence a soft word could be heard:

"Evnek"

Illithir was suddenly thrown from his hiding place and over the throne into the center of the room. As his body hits the floor the torches flare to life.

"My, my. Who might you be?" The soft and yet powerful voice of Malkoven Volkov came from above Illithir, who writhed on the floor as he attempted to get up.

Illithir stood and glared at the ceiling, "I am the one who will bring you to your knees you foul creature!"

At first there was silence like nothing Illithir had ever heard before.

Then, a low chuckle, "Is that so?" Volkov appeared out of a dark fog surrounding his throne with a smile splitting his pale face. "I have been alive longer than some of the continents on this planet and have faced more enemies than you could possibly imagine and you expect a simple dark elf such as yourself to be able to end me?"

Th confidence that had filled Illithir before was gone, it had been replaced with a sense of dread. His eyes wandered to the curtain behind Volkov and he couldn't help but smile.

"My lord, since two years ago we have all noticed how your powers have diminished. You cannot hold back that which you sealed away as the result of her death."

Illithir slid the blade hidden in his sleeve into his and threw it, not at Volkov, but at the curtain and the dark veil behind it.

Is it a house?

The building in front of you is hardly what you could call a house. The door is hardly hanging on it's hinges and the windows are boarded up. You look to Grayson to see if he is playing a trick on you. He shrugs:

"This is where he is staying. I don't know how but it is how he is I guess."

You take a step towards the door and reach for the handle. It suddenly bursts open and an elf steps out with a very bewildered look on his face. His eyes drift slowly around to Grayson and then to you. He stares at you for a moment before his eyes widen with realization. You can see him suddenly recognize who you are.

"Welcome!!!!! I have been eagerly anticipating your arrival!"

He reaches out to shake your hand......

Arriving in Nuledzar

The great fields of Adaline spread out before you. The Regpos rivers twist and wind through the plains ahead of you. The breeze flits through the trees around you and you can see a small village about three miles down the hill. The grass crunches beneath your feet. Your campsite from the night before is packed up and there is no trace that you were there. You pull the letter you received out of your pocket:

Hello, My name is Threduili. I am in need of your services on a mapping quest to Iejir. It is a vastly uncharted area of Mundus that promises to be filled with wonder and amazing new findings! I would greatly appreciate you joining me to accomplish my research.

Thanks!
Threduili

P.S. I almost forgot! I'll meet you in Nuledzar just south of the Regposii.

You look up to see the beauty all around and step forward towards Nuledzar...

A Quest Begins

Thane's figure passed strongly and powerfully through the main entryway of the manor. Winn followed him quickly with determination in his eyes.

"Sir," Winn's voice was musical and to the point. "Your guests are in the great hall waiting for you."

"Thank you Winn." Thane's appreciation was energetic and filled with assurance.

As the two entered the extravagant hall they were met with a scene of two rather short individuals. The first, closest to the door was fidgeting uncomfortably on the satin couch. He was a halfling, short in stature but with piercing eyes, his clothing was distinctive of a prisoner who had been released recently. The second individual was a dark dwarf with crystalline beard hair. This dwarf was sitting far enough back on the couch that he seemed to be enveloped by it.

"May I present Zach the Horrible, the halfling from Nargulind, and Norman the Well Endowed the Dark dwarf of Trynita." Winn introduced the characters with a flair. Thane's face lit up upon seeing his longtime friends.

"Ah my boys! Welcome to my home! I am so glad you came!" Thane's voice was clearly cheerful and he picked up and embraced each of his guests in turn. "Welcome Welcome! Winn! Would you please tell our guests why I have brought them, or," He laughed loudly, "bought them here." His last comment was directed squarely at Zach.

"Of course sir!" Winn waved his hand in a grand gesture. "You two have been summoned by the honorable Thane Thiccson to aide him in a quest to destroy a relic of the past." Winn's eyes glowed slightly with a purple light as an image of an amulet shimmered before their eyes. "This amulet is very dangerous and it must be destroyed immediately. All expenses, including your prison fines Zach, will be paid for in full. We will be entering the main town before we depart to ensure that you are all appropriately geared."

"What if we say no?" Zach's rough voice stopped Winn's explanation.

"If you say no then you will be sent back to prison Zach. The only reason you are free because I allow it." Thane responded with an icy humor.

"I see. Well what if I leave while we are away?" Zach seemed to grin broadly at the idea. It was very clear to everyone in the room that he was tired of spending his days in prison. Winn stared at him with an intensity that cleared away any thoughts of escape from Zach's mind.

"Well let me continue." Winn made a point of holding a hand up to stop Zach from asking any more questions. "We must bring this amulet to the place it was crafted by elves to destroy it. Or so my master says." Winn finished his explanation with a slight flair.

"So my friends, what do you way?" Thane looked at them all very expectantly.

"I'd love to help you mate." For the first time Norman spoke. His eyes gleamed with anticipation.

"Alrighty but I had better be set free immediately after we are done." Zach's comment caused Winn to step behind him menacingly. "Or whenever really." Zach laughed quietly with evident nervousness.

"Well then! we will set out immediately after lunch!" Thane grinned broadly as his friends settled down for lunch.
